How do you distill an entire novel into a few pages without losing the story's heart, tension, and emotional impact?

In this webinar, literary agent Jackie Kruzie of Focused Artists demystifies the synopsis and shows you exactly what agents are looking for. You'll learn how to identify the essential spine of your story, clearly communicate character motivations and stakes, and create a synopsis that showcases the strength of your manuscript rather than simply recounting events.

You'll learn how to:

  • Identify the core story arc and build your synopsis around it
  • Clearly communicate character goals, motivations, and stakes
  • Summarize plot and turning points without getting lost in details
  • Balance clarity, voice, and momentum
  • Avoid common mistakes that weaken a submission

Novelists writing for all ages will gain practical tools for presenting their stories with confidence and clarity.

Bonus Opportunity: Participants will be able to share their work with Jackie following the webinar!
The synopsis is often a dreaded part of the querying process.  But it doesn't have to be.

Jackie is a literary agent with Focused Artists, author, former librarian, and all-around book nerd. A self-proclaimed book dragon Jackie hoards books like buried treasure and has made a career out of creating and sharing her love of books with eager readers. Her work in libraries has a great impact on the stories she chooses to represent.

She looks for picture books and board books that are fun read-a-louds perfect for storytime and loves fast-paced kid-focused books with no heavy moral. She is not the right fit for new baby or new pet books but would love a story featuring a modern grandparent that challenges stigmas.

For middle grade and young adult, she looks for stories that put young readers in the driver’s seat and speak to those who feel invisible. She welcomes tough topics and loves books that expand a reader’s worldview.
