When should you speak up? When should you let go? And how do you advocate for the heart of your story while maintaining strong professional relationships?

Rebecca has worked on 18 books with 12 editors and 15 illustrators across 11 different publishers, and she's spent years learning when to push back, when to compromise, and when to trust the process.

In this webinar, she'll share real-world experiences and practical insights to help you navigate the collaborative side of publishing with confidence.

Learn how to prepare for the “what’s your vision” conversation with an editor even before you land a book deal and why it is valuable to do so. In this session Rebecca will help you learn how to:

  • Determine when feedback or changes are worth pushing back on and when they're not
  • Communicate concerns and preferences professionally and effectively
  • Navigate creative differences with editors and illustrators
  • Balance advocacy for your vision with openness to collaboration
  • Approach the publishing process as a productive member of the creative team

Because while picture books may begin with a single creator, bringing them to life is truly a team sport.
Once your picture book is acquired and an illustrator is assigned, it is no longer yours alone. Suddenly, you're part of a creative team—working alongside editors, illustrators, art directors, and others who all bring their own expertise and vision to the project. But what happens when those visions don't perfectly align with your own?
