Hello Austinites! The Texas Book Festival might be over but that does not mean there is a lag in Book Events happening in Austin this week. Or any week for that matter. Whatever your interest, whether it be food or poetry, whether you’re a kid or an adult, this week has something for you. So make sure to check out some of these events and help support the Austin Writing Community.
Friday, November 7 at 7 PM, Book People is psyched to welcome J.R. Helton to the store to read and sign his latest novel, The Jugheads. “This guy Helton could be the next Bukowski,” says film director Terry Zwigoff.
Saturday, November 8th at 11:30 AM join Book People in the morning, for a very special story time starring their friends from the Paramount Theater! They’ll be reading stories, doing a craft, and also talking about their upcoming productions.
Sunday, November 9 at 1PM Book People Presents The Food Network’s Tyler Florence, speaking about & signing
Test Kitchen: 120 New Recipes, Perfected. Tyler Florence does updated comfort food like no one else, but comfort food’s never been updated like this. Join him as he perfects, simplifies, and totally re-invents your favorite.
Also on Sunday, November 9 from 3 PM to 4 PM, join Malvern Books for an afternoon with poets Catharine Savage Brosman, Tomás Morin, and Erin Belieu. These poets are all extremely prolific, with numerous awards and fellowships between them.
Join Malvern Books on Tuesday, November 11 at 7:00 pm for more poetic festivities. Malvern Books will be hosting the Raw Paw reading series, which celebrates the release of a new issue of their poetry imprint, Mind Maze. This month’s release is Stuck in the Future by Ed Buffaloe. The event will include readings from Josh Boyd, Wade Martin, Jim Redmond, and Ed Buffaloe, with Master of Ceremonies David Jewell. Come along and enjoy this literary synergy of events and publications!
Fun for the whole family, on Wednesday, November 12th, at Book People, Ms. Staci is back in the store to read some of her favorite stories and to sing some of your favorites songs. Kids, don’t forget your dancing shoes! The fun begins up on our third floor at 10:30am.
Thursday, November 13 at 9 PM, Book Woman is staging it’s Second Thursday Open Mic. Hosted by Cindy Huyser Featuring Natalia Trevino: Born in Mexico City, Natalia grew up in a Texas where her mother taught her Spanish and Bert and Ernie gave her lessons in English. Her work captures the voices and lives of women who emerge despite everything that works tirelessly against them.
Upcoming Events at The Writing Barn:
Make sure you don’t miss any of the holiday classes here at The Barn. We have a Create and Craft Your Ideal Holiday with Bernadette Noll, which will help you get make your holidays as festive and family orientated as possible. With all of the hustle and bustle that comes with the season, this class will be a nice way to take a break and learn different ways to slow down for the season, in order to make sure it’s a special one.
Our other Holiday orientated class is with Stephanie Pellegrin as she teaches From Garbage to Glamorous, Giving Unwanted Books New Life. In this class you will take the tattered pages of books you would normally end up throwing away, and instead, turn them into art for the season. Learn how to make book wreaths and a book tree in this fun and festive afternoon class.
