What’s Happening in the Austin Book World, November 13 to November 20

Hello everyone! Welcome back and hopefully you’re all ready for another load of events happening in the Austin book world. This week is sure to have something for everyone, from story time, to petting little critters, to panel discussions. There is plenty this week to keep everyone busy. So be sure to get out this week and enjoy what the Book World has to offer. Read your heart out and once again everyone, engage in the writing world.

 

game bfore te moneyThursday, November 13 at 7 p.m. Book People is excited to welcome Jackson Michael, Author of The Game Before The Money: Voices of the men who built the NFL, and former Texas Longhorn, Doug English to speak and sign about the book. Michael and English will introduce to us the newest in football history. 

Saturday, November 15 at 12 p.m.Book People is pleased to welcome the one and only R. L. Stine to sign and speak about his newest novel rlstine Party Games: A Fear Street Novel. Stine is back ladies and gents, with a new spine chilling series that is sure to attract young readers.

Sunday, November 16 at 3 p.m. Book People is excited to announce that  Violet Crown Publishers is back and will be showcasing ten new authors. Violet Crown Publishers is your complete source for Indie publishing and they are pleased to announce the lineup for this event. Monday, November 17 at 7 p.m. Book People is pleased to welcome best selling author, Julie Kagawa, to speak about and sign her novel Talon. This is the first first booktalon of her series Talon Saga. This Contemporary action and fantasy author is about to take on her favorite mythological creatures: DRAGONS! Pick up a copy of the book and join in at Book People to discuss what it would be like if dragons walked with humans.

Wednesday, November 19 at 10:30 a.m. Book People would like to welcome anyone who enjoys fluffy, fuzzy, and soft little critters, and loves a good story time. Book People is welcoming our furry friends from Tiny Tales to you to join us in a morning full of fun and story telling.

Thursday, November 20 at 7 p.m. Once again, it’s that time, third Thursday at Book People. This week the Writer’s League of Texas will be having a panel discussion with Greg Garrett, Robert Rummel Hudson, Donna M. Johnson, and Leila Levinson. This weeks panel is “Mom Always did like you Best!” Be sure to come out and join in on the discussion.

Dec 2nd, afternoon       Create and Craft Your Ideal Holiday with Bernadette Noll, which will help you get make your holidays as festive and family orientated as possible. With all of the hustle and bustle that comes with the season, this class will be a nice way to take a break and learn different ways to slow down for the season, in order to make sure it’s a special one.

Dec 9th , evening          From Garbage to Glamorous, Giving Unwanted Books New Life with Stephanie Pelligrin. In this class you will take the tattered pages of books you would normally end up throwing away, and instead, turn them into art for the season. Learn how to make book wreaths and a book tree in this fun and festive evening class. 

 

 

 

 

January Intensives at The Writing Barn:

January 8-11      Join us for The Art of The Sale a creative weekend of craft and camaraderie with best-selling authors and best friends, Siobhan Vivian and Jenny Han. This intensive will be a mix of formats. For those in the querying trenches,  there will be SIMPLY IRRESISTIBLE: How to Craft a Perfect Cover Letter, Formulate an Engaging One-sentence Sales Pitch, and Land the Agent of Your Dreams. And for those with agents, there will be NOW WHAT? How to Build your Writing Career, Book by Book, Goal by Goal. These small groups will involve discussion and input from either Jenny or Siobhan.

January 16-19     Sit, Walk, Write, Dream with Saundra Goldman        Over the long, holiday weekend, we will pay homage to Martin Luther King, cultivating peace through practice. Sticking to the holy trinity of structure as developed by Natalie Goldberg – sitting meditation, slow walking, and writing practice – we will dive deep into the territory of big mind. The weekend will be in silence with periods of instruction and time for individual practice and writing. We’ll end on Martin Luther King Day, sitting meditation on the steps of the State Capitol.
