National Picture Book Day is Today!

By WB Intern Cathy Sheafor

It’s National Picture Book Day and time to check out these recent/upcoming Picture Book Releases!

National Picture Book Day was first celebrated in 1967. Established by Switzerland’s International Board on Books for Young People, this holiday is celebrated in some places on March 28 and others on April 2. Regardless of when you choose to celebrate, it is a fun reason to examine some new releases.

Here are a few amazing SEL picture books that have been released or will release soon.

Missing Violet by Swemba/Faiallo was published in January and it provides a sensitive and poignant examination of grief.

Big Truck Playdate by Carmody/Lounsbury released on March 7. This heartwarming story told from the perspective of a boy on the autism spectrum highlights how play can create powerful connections with new friends.

Our Roof is Blue by Echenique/Vargas releases on April 11. This heartfelt story of siblings working to rebuild after Hurricane Maria has a powerful message about resilience.

City Beet by Cohen/Lugo with a release date of March 14 is a clever humorous celebration of community. Pick this one up and learn what happens when a beet won’t budge.

A Girl Can Build Anything by Charlton-Trujillo/Miller/Morris releases on April 18. A story of self-expression, this fun ode will inspire readers to build because they can!

Grandpa’s Scroll by Park/Hoon releases in May 2023 and it tells the powerful story of love overcoming distance and difference.

What 2023 releases are you eagerly awaiting?
