This week is sure to be an exciting one from signings to celebrating the one year anniversary of Malvern Books to events for the kids. There will be some very talented writers featured, so be sure to take this opportunity to engage in the writing world.

On Thursday, October 9 at 6:30 PM, award-winning actor/comedian, B.J. Novak will be at Book People for a speaking and signing for his newest book ,The Book with no Pictures.
On Friday, October 10 at 7 PM, Malvern Books will be kicking off their one year anniversary celebration with an exciting three day event that will feature individuals who are also celebrating their one year anniversary. First year MFA students from The University of Texas will be joining Malvern Books for a reading. Don’t miss out on this celebration.
On Saturday, October 11 at 11:30 AM, Book People will be hosting an event for the little ones and what better way to do that than by bringing back stories written by the one and only, American Writer, Poet, and Cartoonist, Dr. Seuss. This event will feature Horton and the Kwuggerbug and Other Lost Stories. Head on over for story time, activities, and more.
On Sunday, October 12 at 4 PM, Book People is having an event this week that I think a lot of us will appreciate. Remember those required readings from high school? Well Book People is having theirs monthly Required Reading Revisited Book Club with Tim O’Briens’ Discussing the things they Carried. This is an event to help us find a new appreciation for the books we didn’t take seriously in high school. Don’t miss the opportunity to take a second look at those books.
On Tuesday, October 14 at 7 PM, Malvern Books event Raw Paw reading series will feature poets and the release of a new issue of their poetry imprint, Mind Maze. This month’s release will feature poet A.R. Rogers, and the event will include readings from A.R., Ken Fontenot, Brandy Ingram, and Marger Segal. This is a free event that is an Austin original since 2010.
On Wednesday, October 15 at 7 PM, at Book People Cindy and Merrilee are back for their monthly book club. The discussion this month will be on The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business by Charles Duhigg. Also on October 15 at 7:30PM , St. Edwards University will be having a Visiting Writers Series event featuring Elizabeth McCracken, whose newest story collection was just long-listed for the National Book Award, Thunderstruck.
On Thursday, October 16 at 7 PM, Book People will be having their Third Thursday Panel which features writers from the Writers League of Texas. Featuring four women from Austin, senior editor Lari Bishop, author Shnnandoah Diaz, Editor and publisher Stephanie Land, and author Joni Rogers.

This week on October 14, Rene Steinke will be joining us for, Short Story and Literary Fiction event with NBA finalist Rene Steinke. Rene Steinke’s latest novel Friendswood releases this August. The Writing Barn is also having an Advanced Writer Weekend Workshop, Writing Outside The Box with author/agent Ammi-Joan Paquette and author K.A. Holt starting October 9-12.
