I am thrilled that The Writing Barn now has an online home at www.writingbarn.com. What began as a lark last spring — transforming an abandoned horse barn into a book lover haven — has now become a full-fledged reality.
Since early October of 2010, The Writing Barn has quietly been welcoming the Austin writing community to its doors. Early events included a book launch party for Harness Horses, Bucking Bronco’s and Pit Ponies, written an illustrated by Jeff Crosby and Shelley Ann Jackson. The event brought kids and mini-horses to The Barn. Scott Wiggerman of Dos Gatos Press brought poets in two successful consecutive January classes. And Saundra Goldman of In Process Writing brought zen-inspired writers for a day of meditation, slow walking, and writing just this last Monday.
Calls from attendees to these workshops and those in the greater writing community have been coming in. A facebook page simply would not do. A website was in demand. So I got to work with the aid of a previous student who is a tremendous writer and much more website knowledgeable than I, Samantha Clark, and a few days later — the website is ready to go LIVE.
A big thanks to Dave Wilson of Dave Wilson Photography who swung by The Writing Barn last October and took the amazing pictures of the space. If you’re in need of a real estate photographer, don’t look any further than Dave and check out his many shows around Austin.
Look for future blog posts, with write-ups of Writing Barn events, tips on throwing a successful book launch, guests posts on the writing life, and any and all things book- and Austin-related. And if you want to drop by The Barn, please give me a ring at 512-665-0886 for a viewing, as the space is shown by appointment only.
Welcome to The Barn!
Happy reading & writing.
