WB Book Releases to Look Out For (Fall 2024 Edition)

In addition to pumpkin everything and hopes for crisper days, the beginning of Fall brings a whole new season for book releases. Whether you’ve already begun building your fall reading list or are in need of a few titles to get you started, we have some recommendations from our very own Writing Barn authors with books releasing this fall. 


Firebreak (Horizon) by Jennifer Phillips 

We’re kicking it off with a book you can get your hands on right now! Firebreak (Horizon) released at the beginning of August. It tells the story of high school junior Alia, who after a conversation with her grandmother becomes alarmed about the oppression of senior citizens in the country. Pervaded by themes of social justice and the bonds within multigenerational families, this story is perfect for those reading above or at a 2nd- to 3rd-grade level. 

Clouds in Space by Teresa Robeson illustrated by Diana Renžina

Detailed with real space science and gorgeous illustrations, this nonfiction book introduces readers to nebulae–or, space clouds. Young astronomers will be fascinated by this read. It came out in August, so you can pick up your copy now

The Littlest Grito by Nicholas Solis illustrated by Teresa Martinez 

Coming soon in early September, The Littlest Grito tells the courageous story of Gloria Hernandez, who steps up to yell the grito when her Papa cannot. When doubts start to creep in, Gloria will need the support from her Papa and her community to find her voice. 

Divya Far From Home by Sita Jit illustrated by Abhilasha Khatri

Also coming in September, Divya Far From Home is the story of nine-year-old Divya, who is faced with huge changes when her family moves from Delhi, India to a new city all the way across the world. Find a copy here.

Yasmeen Lari, Green Architect by Marzieh Abbas illustrated by Hoda Hadadi

Coming out in October, this book tells the true life story of Pakistan’s first female architect and humanitarian, who stepped up during a natural disaster to invent sustainable and affordable housing. Abuela’s Letter by Debbie Zapata illustrated by Alejandra Ruiz

Alma treasures days at her Abuela’s house, when her whole big family is together with her Abuela’s love at the center. So when her Abuela dies, Alma is challenged by a new kind of sadness, and she discovers letter-writing as a way to cope with her loss. You can find a copy of this beautiful story of grief and family on shelves this October. 

Between You and Me by Rob Sanders illustrated by Raissa Figueroa

Towards the end of publishing’s fall release season this December, keep an eye out for Rob Sanders’ Between You and Me, a sweet and engaging story about a child who introduces themself to their new neighbor and all the special in-between moments that build their friendship. Love is Here with You by Jyoti Rajan Gopal illustrated by Nabi H. Ali

A softhearted, comforting experience for readers and listeners, this text features a family singing their baby to sleep with an original lullaby as deities from the Hindu pantheon act as guardians over their slumber. Pick up a copy this December!
