In this workshop, we’ll learn to craft powerful personal essays, from the literary basics – including the most important sentence in your essay – to the emotional roller coaster of running into your neighbor after he learned your most embarrassing secrets in the New York Times.

The Story Hunter: Mining Life and History in Search of Story with Greg Neri:

Finding treasure hidden in plain sight is something Coretta Scott King honor-winning author G. Neri does well. In this class, he will talk about how he honed the radar that has resulted in 9 award-winning books: novels, graphic novels and picture books all inspired by real life—people, places or events that no one had written about before. He has applied his unique talents to story finding to about everything from black urban cowboys to drug smuggling surfers to his latest quest: the real-life childhood friendship of Harper Lee and Truman Capote.
