Last Saturday, the Barn turned to into the Shimmy Shack for the release of Jeff Crosby’s new children’s book,
The release turned an overcast weekend afternoon into a kid-friendly, extremely rockabilly event.
Jeff read his book to kids, adults and everywhere in between–with live accompaniment from local rockabilly band Ruby Dee and the Snakehandlers! They provided all the rock ‘n’ roll sounds that the book references, and prompted the kids to join in with their own voices.
After the reading came plenty of awesome music, and some very talented little dancers.
The troll from Rockabilly Goats Gruff even made an appearance!
Inside, guests could munch on all kinds of country treats, from sweet tea and cornbread to some rockin’ cupcakes.
Outside was a root beer stand, to keep all those playing out side well-hydrated and energized.
Did we mention there were actual goats? Mobile Goats provided us with some friends who look extremely similar to the book’s protagonists. The kids loved the kids and vice versa.
And of course, Jeff was there to sign books for fans, sold by Austin’s own indie, Book People. A big congrats from us folks at The Writing Barn, to Jeff Crosby and Shelley Ann Jackson for another rockingly original book launch.
