It’s Pride Month: Let’s Celebrate!

by Writing Barn Intern Macy Lane

Before June melts into July we want to show some love and celebrate Pride Month! Here are some helpful resources to spark conversations, deepen understandings, and have fun as we observe this special time.

Kidlit. tv shares Becky Flanberg’s blog post-Diverse Kidlit That Celebrates Pride Month.  With embedded links to helpful articles and a list of LBGTQ chapter books for children, you’ll find a wealth of information here. Check it out!

Read Brightly has a great post entitled 30 Great LBGTQ+ Books for Kids and Teens by Denise Shipani.  Celebrating the diversity of families in our world, this blog post highlights books to share with those you love.

Head to The New York Times to read 15 LGBTQ Books for Kids and Teens Recommended by Queer Librarians, Educators, and Independent Booksellers by Caitlin Giddings.  Here you’ll discover a list of books with links to local bookstores nationwide where you can support small businesses while celebrating Pride Month!

Speaking of bookstores, please consider checking your local shops to see what they have readily available. BookPeople, here in Austin, Texas, has a page on their website and a section in their store, dedicated to showcasing books about LBGTQ+.

A quick search on the internet should bring up several Pride Month options for events to attend or activities to participate in.  Teambuilding.com shares 24 Fun Pride Month Ideas for the Office in 2023 and suggests an office book club. With this year’s theme being “Peace, Love Revolution”, you’re sure to find all sorts of ways to stay informed and involved.
