Event Recap: Words and Wine Wednesday with Mary Helen Specht
This past wednesday The Writing Barn was thrilled to kick off one of its brand new free programming events. Words and Wine Wednesdays coincides with our Austin Author Spotlight Segment, where local featured authors tell us about their upcoming books, and then come to The Barn to read and answer questions Last Wednesday we were honored to have fiction author, Mary Helen Specht, come to The Barn to talk about her debut novel from Harper Perennial, Migratory Animals.
After a brief tour of The Writing Barn’s grounds, friends, family, and literary-enthused-locals got to hear Specht read aloud an excerpt from her novel. She also answered an array of questions about her writing process, the inspiration for her new work, and her time spent abroad in Nigeria. After her reading and the question and answer segment, guests were able to buy and have signed their own copy of Migratory Animals.
Afterwards, guests were welcomed to mingle on The Writing Barn porch and partake in complimentary fruit, wine, and cheese. Mary Helen Specht even signed the Party Porch, where all published authors who visit The Barn leave their mark. All in all, it was a a great night. Thank you to everyone showed up. You all made The Writing Barn’s first Words and Wine Wednesday a success!
