Celebrate a Week of Changemaker Birthdays!

October 1st is former president Jimmy Carter’s 100th birthday. And just a couple of days later on October 3rd, we celebrate Mahatma Gandhi’s 155th birthday. Plus, our Founder and Creative Director Bethany Hegedus has her 52nd birthday this week on October 4th, so we thought we’d take this opportunity to spread the word about her books featuring these two icons!

Jimmy Carter is our country’s oldest living former president. Hard Work, But It’s Worth It: The Life of Jimmy Carter is the first picture book biography about this humanitarian leader. It tells the story of how a simple farm boy grew up to become the Nobel Prize winner and diligent egalitarian who sought to shape our nation–and succeeded! If you’ve read it, be sure to leave a review on Amazon or Goodreads. If you haven’t, grab a copy wherever books are sold to commemorate former president Carter’s centennial. Bethany also gave a video interview with News Nation last year to commemorate the life of his wife, First Lady Rosalynn Carter.

Another unforgettable humanitarian we want to celebrate this week is Mahatma Gandhi. You, Me, We: A Celebration of Peace and Community relays the teachings of this civil rights activist as delivered to his grandson, Arun Gandhi, who worked with Bethany on this project and two previous picture books. The result is a warm, inspiring picture book about peace and how we can all find it in our daily lives. You can leave a review on Amazon or Goodreads and learn how to celebrate peace by picking up your own copy

Whether you too are awed by the philosophies and good deeds of these incredible men or whether you’re a writer who loves the Writing Barn, we’d love to hear your thoughts on these books. Please share them with us by posting a review or checking them out if you haven’t already.

Writing Barn Founder and Creative Director Bethany Hegedus turns 52 this Friday. STAY TUNED: We’re continuing the celebration next week with a cover reveal for her forthcoming picture book, Batter Up for the First Day of School!
