Autumn Prompts to Spike Your Creativity

by WB Intern, Deborah Darden

Autumn is finally here! For many of us, that means cooler temperatures, pumpkin spice lattes, and the beginning of cozy nights by the fire. To keep your writing streak strong, we have six more prompts inspired by this mystical season.

Your task is the same as before. Create a beautiful short story or two with a minimum of 1,000 words. We even have some ideas to help exercise your fantasy-creating muscles. Happy writing!

Message In The Fog

You meet a stranger who emerges from the fog and they have a rather interesting message to deliver. What is it and how will the conversation go?

The Cabin Getaway

Suppose that around this time of year, you take a trip to this cabin tucked away in the mountains. What story will you tell about your first day there?

Curse of the Harvest Moon

Fantasize that this is the first year you learn that during the harvest moon, you and your family go through some peculiar changes. What changes will you undergo? Expand your horizons past the cliché werewolf or shape-shifter transformation.

The Pumpkin Life

Envision yourself as one of these pumpkins. Yes, you read that right. What would their day entail? Are they excited about the upcoming holiday festivities?

Childlike Fun

Let’s go back to our childhood innocence with this one. Tell us a story about the fun you would have with a few friends and a pile of leaves.

Magic at Work

Imagine you’re part of a tribe of elves who reside in this forest and are preparing the world for the Autumn season. What would their work look like? What kind of shenanigans would ensue?

What stories did you come up with? Share them with us on social media!
