Situated on 7.5 wooded acres in Austin, Texas, The Writing Barn is home to a vast array of wildlife, including birds and deer. It’s a peaceful out-of-town environment without ever leaving the city.
With floor to ceiling bookshelves, rows of instructional craft books, free wi-fi, and no television, The Writing Barn is the perfect spot for an overnight writing retreat, a writing class, or a book launch party.
As well as being the chosen venue for corporate retreats and outside programming, The Writing Barn offers opportunities for creative study through classes with local and visiting authors, weekend and week-long intensives, Write Away Days, and Write NOW! sessions.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we shifted our programming to the virtual learning space, where we are able to offer classes and intensives to writers beyond the Austin area all around the world. And, with our sister company The Courage to Create, we are able to stay more connected than ever — when it’s needed the most.
Founded by award-winning novelist and picture book writer Bethany Hegedus, author of the Grandfather Gandhi series, Between Us Baxters and Truth with a Capital T, The Writing Barn is here to serve all your writing-related needs.
The Writing Barn is located near Manchacha Road and Slaughter Lane in South Austin, Texas. For an exact address or to schedule a viewing appointment, please book a tour here.
