What’s Happening in the Austin Book World March 26-April 2

Hello everyone! I hope you all survived the chaos of sxsw. There is plenty for everyone in the Austin Book World this week, so if you need a chance to relax and wind down from all the craziness go out and enjoy what the book world has to offer. Also, its always fun to encourage and support new, visiting authors as well as local authors. Once again go out and engage in the Austin book world. If you don’t have time this week that’s okay, just be sure to pick up a book and find a nice quiet place to read and enjoy.

Thursday, March 26 at 7p.m. Malvern Books is glad to be having their poetry corner with W. Joe. W. Joe’s poetry corner is an event in which W. Joe interviews local poets and this weeks featured poet has been doing poetry shows for 30 years, David Jewell. Following the interview, there will be a reading and a Q&A allowing questions from the audience.

Friday, March 27 at 6p.m. Just in case you’re still in the sxsw mood, Book Woman is having a sx North Lamar in celebration of the power of women in music. This is an annual sx event featuring women artists including:Kiya Heartwood,
Elizabeth Wills, Meg Barnhouse, Christy Claxton, Nancy Scott, Jess Klein, Amy Zamarripa, Sue Young, Jan Seides, Stacy Lieder, Sonya Jevette, Stefanie Fix, Andrea Dawson, Dana McBride, Mo McMorrow, Kit Holmes, Deann Rene’, Erin Walters, Jean Synodinos, and Kayla Outlaw.

ken-f1Saturday, March 28 at 7p.m. Malvern Books is pleased to be celebrating a New Book Release! Ken Fontenot is releasing his fourth book of poetry, Just a Trace of Moon. Fontenot is currently doing his work her in Austin, Texas, but is originally from New Orleans. He is also a winner the Austin Book Award and the 2013 Texas Institute of Letters Award for best poetry book in  Texas.

Sunday, March 29 at 1p.m. There is going to be The Modern Library Reading Group at Malvern Books. This is a book club hosted by Lindsey DeWitt. This book club focuses on books that are on the Modern Library’s List of the 100 best English-Language novels of the 20th century. This weeks book is #17 on the list, the Heart is a Lonely Hunter by Carson McCullers. This book club gets together every fourth Sunday of the month at 1p.m.

Whisper-HollowFINAL3Monday, March 30 at 7p.m. Author of Whisper Hollow, Chris Cander will be at Book People for reading and signing. This event is going to be hosted by the Writer’s League of Texas. This is a wonderful book that will have us all questioning and challenging our own moral convictions based on the shadow that is casts over by Catholicism.

Tuesday, March 31 at 10:30a.m. It’s that time again, time for stories and fun at Book People. This weeks story time theme is squirrels and the book being featured is Squirrels on Skis by J. Hamilton Ray and Pascal Lemaitre. This is an evening of fun, silly, goofy, squirrelly fun for the kids.

Wednesday, April 1 at 10:30a.m. There will be a Red Hen Press Reading, which is a nonprofit literary organization in Pasadena, CA. Red Hen’s co-founder, Kate Gale will be at Book Woman along with Peggy Shucker, and Ellen Meeropol. Come join for an amazing evening of poetry, prose, and connection. Come out and help Book Woman give these three women a big Austin, Texas welcome. 23609984

Thursday, April 2 at 7p.m. Author Lashonda Katrice Barnett will be at Book People speaking about her debut novel Jam on the Vine. Following there will be a book signing with the purchase of the novel from Book People. This is a wonderful book about the struggles that women face while seeking equality.
