The day’s are only getting hotter, and Austin’s literary events are only getting better! Check out some of Austin’s literary events that are happening this weekend. The Austin Literary community is filled with amazingly talented writers so pick an event or three, and show your support for your favorite Austin writers.
The Events
On Friday, June 6 at 7 p.m., there will be a Local Author Night at Book People featuring writers Steven Horn, Tiffany Sunday, and Stephen Yanoff as they share with us tidbits of their new work.
Also on Friday, June 6 starting at 6:30 p.m., Malvern Books is hosting “An Evening with Lowell Mick White & Ken Fontenot.” There will be live music from TOPSY and a subsequent reading. Lowell Mick White is the author of Professed and That Demon Life, and Ken Fontenot’s novel, Mr. Raindrink, is out now.
On Saturday, June 7 at 4 p.m., the Barn’s owner, Bethany Hegedus, will be celebrating the release of her newest picture book, Grandfather Gandhi, at Book People. There will be Indian treats, samosas, arts and crafts for the kids, music, and a special video of co-author and Gandhi’s grandson, Arun Gandhi. Grandfather Gandhi is a wonderful picture book with a heartfelt message that appeals to all ages. The event is kid-friendly, and we hope to see you there!
On Sunday June 8 at 5 p.m., Book People is hosting their Required Reading Revisited Book Club, where they will be discussing The Handmaid’s Tale, by Margaret Atwood. Revisit those classic books you read in high school and gain a new perspective
Also onSunday June 8 at 3 p.m., Borderlands: The Texas Poetry Review launches its 40th issue at MalvernBooks. There will be a keynote poet, Laurie Ann Guerrero. Other poets included in the issue are Jonathan Moody, Anis Shivani, SteveWilson, Ken Fontenot, and more.
Lisa Fain will be at Book People on Tuesday June 10 at 7 p.m., speaking andsigning her culinary book, The Homesick Texan’s Family Table. I know I’ll be there to get my copy of the book so I can learn how to make that Pecan Coffee Cake. Check out Lisa Fain’s blog, The Homesick Texan.
On Wednesday June 11 at 7 p.m., Book People’s MysteryPeople Presents: Craig Johnson as he talks about and signs his latest mystery novel Any Other Name: A Longmire Mystery. Come by to be intrigued, buy a good mystery, and enjoy a refreshing St. Arnold Beer.
Debut Novelist Maxwell Neely-Cohen joins Book People to talk about his new book, Echo of the Boom on Thursday June 12 at 7 pm.
Also on June 12 from 7:15 to 9 pm , Book Woman is having it’s 2nd Thursday Poetry Reading and Open Mic . Stop by and listen to some great work, or perhaps share some of your own.
