Event Recap: Kate Payne’s Hip Girl’s Guide to the Kitchen

Last night night, The Writing Barn attended a release party at Book People for Kate Payne’s new book, The Hip Girl’s Guide to the Kitchen.The event was packed with people all wanting to get a taste of Kate’s new book, and perhaps her cooking as well. There was a table set up where Kate brought in tasty homemade goodies for the guests to enjoy.
Kate detailed in her talk, as well as in her book, the wonders of pickling and fermenting food, which was the central theme of the treats she brought. Homemade sauerkraut and rhubarb relish, with pickled carrots and Kate’s very own home made homemade cocktail called a “Strawberry Shrub,” were the highlights of the night.
Whether you are just starting out in the Kitchen or are a classically-trained chef, this book will offer you hip fun tips for cooking up a storm. As a newcomer to the Kitchen, kitchen, I can say fist hand firsthand how intimidating recipes, boiling water, and spatulas can seem, but with “The Hip The Hip Girl’s Guide to the Kitchen,” I Kitchen, I am no longer afraid, but instead am excited to start cooking.
Kate is a master chef and a wonderful writer who knows just the right way to kick ass in the kitchen!
