Writing in one place can be taxing! Sometimes changing our environment can spark new ideas, encourage inspiration or give us the added motivation of working around others. If you (and your creativity) are currently craving a change of scene, then keep on reading! We’ve compiled a list of our top picks for writing spaces, here in Austin, that are sure to get your creative juices flowing.
Austin Public Library
Sometimes, the most perfect spaces are hiding in plain sight! Whether you want to be surrounded by books, enjoy the rooftop garden, or just find a free comfy chair in a quiet space, Austin’s Central Library has got you covered. Come here to get inspired by great views and other booklovers.
Monkey Nest Coffee
Sometimes, you need a bit of a boost to write productively! Monkey Nest has a variety of foods and pastries, unique signature coffees, and a host of non-caffeinated options so you can sip or much while you type away. All this and couches? Sign us up!
Mayfield Park
If you tend to find yourself most inspired in nature, try visiting Mayfield Park. Aside from the park itself, which is an oasis consisting of beautiful ponds and peacocks, Mayfield is also a large nature preserve with tons of great spots to sit down and write. It’s not too difficult to find yourself in a peaceful, secluded bower in this sprawling natural area, and while writing outdoors can be difficult in the Texan summers, most of Mayfield is thickly shaded. Still, don’t forget to bring water!
Flightpath Coffeehouse
For an indoor/outdoor option where you can join the thrum of lots of other worker bees, we recommend Flightpath. This Austin coffeehouse has been around since 1992. It has a large menu and a relaxed, grounded atmosphere that’s perfect for buckling down and hammering out a few chapters. You can stay inside, utilize the covered patio, or swap between both! You’ve got options.
Foodheads
Known primarily as a sandwich spot, we think Foodheads has some untapped potential as a space to write over a meal! With plenty of indoor and outdoor seating and a bright, positive atmosphere, this could be an awesome place for the busy writer to be productive while grabbing a bite. For those who need a quiet environment to concentrate, coming during busy times may not be the best option, but often the picnic tables outside offer a peaceful atmosphere.
