Bloomer

Bloomer (Trio House Press, 2022) was written by Jessica Hincapie, our wonderful Programming Director here at the Writing Barn.

“Winner of the 2020 Louise Bogan Award, Bloomer, transports us to humid, wild Florida, where fear and fascination stand hand in hand. Hincapie’s bravery is found in her complete transparency, which reveals the adversity an artist faces when striving for success and a place in the world at large. Bloomer’s poems pull us into a hazardous and tropical swampland of a speaker consistently confronted by the violence and wonderment of being alive.”

Typewriter Rodeo began in Austin, Texas, when four poets brought their typewriters to a maker fair and began offering spontaneous, custom-composed poems to an enthusiastic crowd. The event quickly blossomed and rodeos began popping up all over the world.”

Coming Out Party

Coming Out Party (Burlwood Books, 2023) by was written by Writing Barn instructor Rebecca Bendheim with art by Sarah Rosa Glickman.

“A memoir of poems and art, Coming Out Party chronicles poet and author Rebecca Bendheim’s queer coming of age journey—from first crushes and toxic homo-erotic friendships, to coming out and secret flings, to finding queer community and falling in love for the first time. Coming Out Party is a fierce, funny, and deeply personal celebration of the strength it takes to break down the protective walls we’ve built—and embrace our truest selves.”
