2025 Book Releases for the New Year

As we continue to soak in the New Year excitement, we wanted to highlight some new books coming out in 2025. Our favorite releases are all by friends who have taken or taught classes at The Writing Barn, so naturally it’s time to brag about their upcoming work! 


So Many Years: A Juneteenth Story & Maya Angelou: A Little Golden Book Biography by Anne Wynter

Anne Wynter’s picture book So Many Years: A Juneteenth Story, out on May 6th, shows the history behind the Juneteenth celebration with poetic expressions. This book is great for introducing young ones to the truth about US history and highlighting the strength of Black resilience which led to a movement of freedom, self-expression, and eternal joy otherwise known as Black joy. 

Also OUT NOW: Be sure to wish Maya Angelou: A Little Golden Book Biography a happy book birthday today! This Little Golden Book about Maya Angelou–the acclaimed poet, lecturer, activist, and author of I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings–is an inspiring read-aloud for young readers everywhere.

Jazzy the Witch in Broom Doom by Jessixa Bagley

In the graphic novel, Jazzy the Witch in Broom Doom by Jessixa Bagley, Jazzy is a teen witch that lives in a town full of witches but her interests don’t often land on anything magic related. Book Comes Home by Rob Sanders 

Book Comes Home, out on March 25th, 2025, walks us through the effects of book banning from a book’s point of view. The incredibly talented Rob Sanders gives a new look on the ongoing war on books in a light hearted yet insightful read.

The Crane and The Keeper by Meeg Pincus

The Crane and The Keeper: How an Endangered Crane Chose a Human as Her Mate, coming out on January 28th, is a tale of an unlikely friendship between a crane and its human keeper. Meeg Pincus shines a light on the challenges Walnut, the endangered White-nape crane, endured while being turned away from one zoo after another until she reached the Smithsonian.


We can’t forget our previously mentioned releases of the next year that we’re also looking forward too! Crack Goes the Cascaron and Alberto Salas Plays Paka Paka Con La Papa, both written by Sara Fajardo, are coming out next year in the spring. Alongside Matt De La Pena’s Home and What Fell From The Sky by Adrianna Cuevas.

About the Author

Ciera De Los Santos has had a fascination with the written word since she learned about the remarkable world of Greek mythology and other fairy tales alike from across the globe. With a goal to travel the world, she’s returning to school to be able to teach and connect with people on a global scale. After working over six years in customer service, and learning skills that she’ll cherish forever, she’s excited to put them to use towards her new objective of being a personal/virtual assistant and social media manager. Ciera also enjoys occult novels, self help books, and other activities such as crocheting and cooking meals that remind her of her family.
