Alchemizing Real-Life Experience for the Page: In this workshop, Sydnee will teach writers how to take real-life experiences and transform them for the page.

Participants will explore:

  • How to mine memory for vivid, specific details that deepen emotional resonance
  • The difference between recounting an experience and shaping it into story
  • Techniques for identifying the emotional core of a real-life moment
  • How to use literary devices — such as imagery, structure, voice, and metaphor — to elevate personal material
  • When to stay close to lived truth and when to adapt for narrative strength
  • Craft examples from Sydnee’s Kokila list that demonstrate real-life inspiration on the page

Practical strategies for both fiction and nonfiction writers looking to enrich their work with authentic experience
How do you use memory to generate words and make a story more emotionally resonant? And how can you use literary devices to enrich what you've experienced? Non-fiction and fiction writers will benefit from this workshop, learning from the examples Sydnee brings from her list at Kokila.
